7 Things To Consider Before Buying CBD Oil for Your Dog

CBD-infused products are one of the most exciting new developments in pet health and wellness available today. Capitalizing on the same benefits that hemp based CBD provides to humans, CBD can be added to your pets regiment to promote vitality and healing. We have put together a buying guide to help you choose the best product for your furry family members.

#1 – Never Purchase a CBD Oil Without Looking at the Certificate of Analysis (COA)

A certificate of analysis (abbreviated COA) contains laboratory testing results of your CBD oil. If the company does not have this information available on their website, move on! Test to look for on a COA. Total Cannabinoids, pesticides, herbicides, terpenes, mycotoxins, mold, bacteria, yeast and heavy metals.

#2 – Low Price May Be a Red Flag

If the price of a CBD oil is significantly lower than others, odds are the company is cutting corners on quality, or the amount of CBD is very low.

#3– CO2 Extraction

The quality of CBD oil varies greatly. One of the most important factors in determining the quality and potency of a CBD product is the method in which the CBD is extracted. Look for a company that uses both supercritical and subcritical CO2 method. CO2 extraction uses carbon dioxide under high pressure and extremely low temperatures to isolate, preserve, and maintain the purity of the medicinal oil. This process requires expensive equipment and a steep operational learning curve but creates the cleanest and purist product.

#4 – Only Purchase an Organic Hemp Product

As many of us already know, buying organic really matters and more so for certain kinds of fruits and vegetables . Because hemp has the unique ability to pull toxins from the soil, choosing an organic product is absolutely crucial. If a product is not organic, simply skip it and choose a better option.

#5 – Beware of Products Labeled Only as “Hemp Oil”

Many companies will try to get around regulations by not putting the term “CBD” on their product label, and call it only “hemp oil.” If you cannot verify the amount of CBD in a hemp product, DO NOT BUY! A high quality pet CBD should have limited oil in their protects to protect pet stomachs. Look for a CBD that has a concentration of 60mg CBD per 1mL. Making the dose around 3mg per 10lbs.

#6 – Choose Full-Spectrum Instead of CBD Isolate

You may come across the term “full-spectrum CBD oil” or “CBD isolate”. A full spectrum product uses the many cannabinoids and terpenes found naturally in hemp, while a CBD isolate product contains only CBD. It know that the whole plant working together creates an “entourage effect” where your pets bodies benefits more from a complete variety of the phytochemical found in hemp.

#7– Only Buy as a Tincture, Not CBD Treats!!

Many CBD treats are heavily processed with heat, which damages the potency of the precious cannabinoids, rendering them much less effective on your dog. Also what if your pet does not like the taste? Go with a low oil CBD for dog so you can place the entire dose on your pets favorite treat.
